Who We Are: The Discovery Middle School Robotics Team
What We Do: The DMS Robotics Team’s focus is to cultivate an environment in which students will learn
about and design, build and compete using robotics. Students will brainstorm solutions to problems,
document their engineering design process, design and build robots and attend competitions. Students
will learn to work as a team, develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and learn to
communicate with teams from around the state.
When: An interest meeting for students will be held on September 24, 2026, in room 407 and
applications to join the DMS Robotics Team will be due on October 15, 2026. All students must complete
an application and include at least one letter of reference from a core academic teacher (Language Arts,
Mathematics, Science or Social Studies). Students who are selected for the team will receive an email on
October 19.
Cost: The fee for being a member of the DMS Robotics Team is $75 for the 2026-2027 season. This fee
covers student registration in TSA and robotics equipment. Once fees are paid they will be non-
refundable.
Expectations: Students are expected to regularly attend team meetings weekly, work hard, display
proper behavior and demonstrate healthy teamwork skills.
Competition: Students will have the opportunity to attend the TSA State Competition in Birmingham in
April and compete in both the Robotics and Robotic Drones competitions. There will be separate fees for
participation at the TSA competition along with required TSA attire. Students are not required to attend
the competition but are encouraged to participate and represent our school.
More information will become available once we are closer to competition time.
Meeting Times: Once the 2026-2027 team has been selected, we will meet weekly on Thursdays from
3:20 – 4:15 p.m. A calendar with meeting dates will be provided to team members.
