University of Alabama in Huntsville, Master of Science, Biology with Education, Class A Professional Teaching Certificate

I retired from a 28 year industrial career in 2011 where I held various technical and leadership positions in the chemical and automotive sectors. In December 2013 I earned my master’s of science in Biological Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville together with an Alabama professional educator certificate.  My wife and I live in Madison and have two adult children who attended both Discovery and Bob Jones. My key motivations in changing careers have been the satisfaction I have had working with kids, the positive experiences I've had teaching both professionally and on a volunteer basis and my life-long love of science. I hope to share some of the insights I have gained during my career to provide students with a perspective of how scientific concepts are put into practice in industry.

In seventh grade life science we will utilize many inquiry based activities to learn how to apply the scientific method to explore biological concepts.  We will use many AMSTI lessons together with additional study in the McGraw-Hill Life Science textbook to cover the content required by the Alabama Course of Study for seventh grade science.  In my Medical Detectives elective students will build the skills necessary to help solve real world medical mysteries like the cause of infectious disease, the role genetics plays in an inherited neurological disease and a murder mystery! Lastly, my Scholar's Bowl class is a student driven classroom where students choose their favorite academic areas to gain expertise and help the team successfully compete in Alabama Scholastic Competition Association tournaments.

Whatever class your student is taking, I look forward to helping them accomplish their academic goals. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, suggestions or comments.  Email works best and my goal is to reply as quickly as possible, certainly by the next day.
