Madison City Destination Imagination Teams Make It to Global Finals!!!!

Fifteen teams won first place honors at the DI state tournament Saturday at UAHuntsville and qualified to represent the state of Alabama at the 2012 Destination Imagination Global Finals May 23-27 at the University of Tennessee next month . . . and EIGHT of those teams are from Madison City Schools!! 



Bob Jones High School


  (1) Madison County Drinking Water Festival Bears – dramatic challenge (Robin Dauma, team manager)

     Adrienne Dauma, Kendall Kingsford, Marissa Walker, Darien Harris, Brandon Mallette, Lex Morton, Michael Herbek


  (2) DI-stracted - Improv drama challenge (Rhonda Daniel, team manager)

     Nathan Daniel, Richard Brasseale, Olivia Skillern, Shannon Walker, Lindsey Martin, Sarah Schumacher


  (3) DI-fferent – vehicle challenge (Deb Harlow and Reilly McRae, team managers)

  (4) Why We Can’t Have Nice Things scientific challenge (Joy Bowman, team manager)

Discovery Middle School


  (5) Do Not DIsturb – vehicle challenge (Denise Jacobson, team manager)

  (6) ParDI Rockers – weight-bearing structure challenge (David Wren, team manager)

     Katie Bohatch, Sammy Shin, Christopher Wren, Collin Wren, Liam Crowe, Aidan Pittman, Stephen Rowe



Horizon Elementary School


  (7) Rabid Squirrels – scientific challenge (Julee Lamps and Kimberly Litton, team managers; Beth Bero, school sponsor)

     Emilee Lamps, Jessie Litton, Parker Shewell, Jenny Shaver and Nicholas Capizzo




Madison Elementary School


  (8) Catching Fire – dramatic challenge (Mia Reed, team manager and school sponsor)

     Jennifer Bell, Elijah Johnson, Manny Johnson, Sarah Kim, Rachel Nola, Nicole Ricketts, Diamond Williams




These teams now must raise $40,000 ($5000 per team) in order to make the trip to Global Finals!!!


To help them reach that goal, we will be having several fundraisers over the next few weeks.  I will try not to inundate you with emails J, but if you feel so inclined to support any of these efforts, please email me, Mrs. Bero, or Mrs. Reed for more details.  If you know any of these team members and would like to personally support them with a donation (any amount is appreciated), you can also contact us.


·        DI Rummage Sale  ~  Saturday, April 21  ~  BJHS Cafeteria  ~  7 AM-Noon

  Donations of items for the sale will be accepted on Friday, April 20 from 4-7 PM (bus loop entrance); donation letters available


·        DI Car Wash  ~  Saturday, April 21  ~  BJHS front parking lot  ~  9-1

  Donation basis


·        Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast  ~  Saturday, April 28  ~  7 AM - 9:30 AM

  $5 tickets available from DI team members or sponsors


·        Electronics Recycling   ~  April 23-May 11 

  Collection boxes at BJHS and DMS for old phones, used printer cartridges, laptops, digital cameras (no desktops or printers!)
